Okauchee 2016 Spring Musky Stocking

In an effort to produce a sustaining and thriving musky fishery in the Greater Milwaukee area, two clubs—The Muskellunge Club of Wisconsin (MCW) and the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc. (MCMI)—are stocking Okauchee Lake with extended growth muskies on April 12th 2016. Both groups are very excited about the potential of this stocking project, and the larger-than-normal size of the muskies that will be released into this trophy-fish producing lake.

Gollon Bait and Fish Farm, a family-owned business in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, will be the source of the muskies provided. Among the fish raised at this facility are panfish (bluegill, crappie, and perch) and baitfish (suckers, fatheads and golden shiners). Since the early 1990s, Gollon has also been deeply rooted in the business of raising gamefish such as small-mouth bass, large-mouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, northern pike, and musky. Their business focuses on supplying bait shops throughout the Midwest, as well as stocking both public waters and private ponds.

Okauchee Lake would not be receiving this wonderful opportunity without not only the successful fundraising efforts of both clubs, but also the generous donations given to each organization to ensure the longevity of musky angling. This stocking project also received a very nice contribution from Waukesha County, who used grant money made available to them.

MCW would like to thank Bill Schwartz and Slammer Tackle for their donation towards the effort of stocking Okauchee Lake this spring. Slammer Tackle, founded in 1989, is based out of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and specializes in the production of high-impact (and high quality) plastic crankbaits. MCW would also like to thank Mike Ebert, Mike Phelps, Nancy Nedilsky, and Emily Guduyron.

MCMI would like to thank Team Rhino Outdoors for their donation toward this stocking effort. Team Rhino is a business that has found a niche in specializing in the sales of custom musky lures, selling a diverse selection of unique paint schemes.

Both clubs want to share their appreciation for all the anonymous donations as well. This project would not have been made possible without the financial support of everybody involved. This stocking event is truly an opportune occurrence, and is aimed at creating a flourishing fishery for the future of our sport.

2015 Pewaukee Lake Stocking

Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies INC and Muskellunge Club of Wisconsin jointly stocked 200 Muskies into Pewaukee Lake on September 18, 2015.

To top that off, independent of MCMI/MCW’s efforts, Smokey’s Muskie Shop with their “Three Charlies Tournament” financially supported an additional 100 Muskies for Pewaukee Lake. Much to our surprise, they all came on the same truck from Gollon Fish Farm! MCMI and MCW with the permission of John Laimon, owner of Smokey’s Muskie shop, helped to distribute the Three Charlies Tournament’s 100 muskies.

300 total muskies were stocked around Pewaukee Lake. These were in addition to the muskies that the Wisconsin DNR stocked this year.

2015 Stocking Lac La Belle

Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies INC and Muskellunge Club of Wisconsin joined forces again for stocking efforts. The effort received funds from Milwaukee Chapter Muskies INC, Muskellunge Club of Wisconsin – Bob Baumann Memorial Stocking Fund, and Team Rhino Outdoors. 400-425 muskies were stocked into Lac LaBelle on Friday September 18, 2015. Members of MCMI, MCW and the Wisconsin DNR distributed the approximately 12″ muskies around the lake.

2015 Joint Stocking Efforts on Southeast Wisconsin Lakes

The Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc (MCMI) and the Muskellunge Club of Wisconsin (MCW) are pleased to announce a joint stocking effort this fall on Lac La Belle and Pewaukee Lake in Southeast Wisconsin. With both clubs matching each others funds and Team Rhino Outdoors donation of $120 to the La Belle effort, it is planned that 400 Muskies will be stocked in Lac La Belle and then an additional 190 Muskies will be stocked in Pewaukee in the fall of 2015.

The fish are coming from Gollon Fish Farm in Dodgeville WI. In early July Gollon Fish Farm reported: “Your (MCW and MCMI) fish are doing just fine, smallest are 5.5 inches and the largest are 7” measured on the 4th of July weekend. We should have plenty to meet your request, and plan to stock in mid to late September. The health certificate paperwork (Between hatchery and WI DNR completed by outside lab) should be done next week, and after that we can get the stocking permit done for September. “

In an effort to save cost, the clubs collaborated their resources and Scott Wilkie of MCW contacted Gollon about a “Split Load” to be delivered on the same day. Gollon told Wilkie that it was possible, ultimately meaning more Muskies stocked in Southeast Wisconsin. With the increased fishing pressure in Southeast Wisconsin, both clubs see the need to create new fishing opportunities in addition to supplementing lakes that already have muskies in them. It is our hope to spread the fishing pressure out and sustain a good Muskie fishery in Southeast Wisconsin for all to enjoy.

2013 Amron Pond Muskie Collection, Eastern half

This is the second pull of the seine to rid the eastern half of the pond of algae before we could seine for muskies. The western half was pulled prior to this. At the end of this video, we were drawing in the lengths of seine net to slowly reduce the area the muskies were in. Unfortunately, the media card was full at this point so we do not have footage where we then scoop the muskies into 5 gallon pails to carry them up the pond wall to the awaiting WI DNR transport tank/truck.
