2020 Chapter Updates

Lac Labelle Study

    • We partnered with MCW and the DNR on a project concerning tagging muskies in Labelle.  Between the two clubs, we purchased 12 transmitters to be surgically implanted into muskies that will be roaming Labelle.  It is possible that a fish or two will be put into Oconomowoc as well, but that isn’t known yet.
    • The goal of the study is to understand the migratory movements of muskies in Labelle.  We’ve invested a lot of money into stocking Labelle (MCW and MCMI) and we wish to see if they are leaving.  And if so, do they come back.
    • Our DNR biologist, Ben, is going to be working with us on this process and study.  Our hope is that this study helps him improve the dam on Labelle and ultimately helps him stock the lake in the future.

Our hope is that this update finds you and your family happy and healthy during this trying time.  We encourage you to fish within your community and hope to see you out there!

2019 Quad County Challenge

The 33rd annual Milwaukee Chapter vs. Quad-County Chapter challenge will be held on  Saturday, May 4th (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, May 5th (7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) on Pewaukee Lake. This is a friendly event to kick off the season, see our friends from Illinois, and compete for bragging rights and the traveling trophy for the year. The honor system is used to “register” fish and the Muskies, Inc. point system is used for length.

As with past challenges, participants will simply launch their boat where ever it is their convenience. You may start fishing before 7:00, but you cannot count fish caught unless it is after the 7:00 start. We usually eat lunch at Curly’s Waterfront at noon to get updated on how everyone is doing. At about 5:30 on Saturday, we will have a catered meal to all participants at Nettesheim Park. At noon Sunday we have the traveling trophy presentation at Curly’s Waterfront.

If you’re interested in participating, Contact Bob Petzke at 262-442-6260.  There is a $10 fee to help cover food costs for Saturday evening.

April 23rd Meeting – Bait Swap & Meat Raffle

Dave Olson was unable to fulfill his speaking commitment with us, so we will be hosting a bait swap and meat raffles instead of having a speaker for our April meeting.

It is with great excitement that we share our April meeting topic with you all.  It is…..BAIT SWAP!!!  You heard it correctly!  BAIT SWAP!  Tuesday, April 23rd, 7pm – 9pm.

This event is open for everyone to attend, but the selling of baits/gear is limited to Muskies Inc. members.  Please let Geoff Verges know, via email as space is limited, if you would like to reserve a table. You can reach him at vegas492@yahoo.com.  Get your emails in early so you can be sure to reserve yourself a table! We’ll do everything we can to accommodate as many as contact us.

Along with the bait swap, we will also be holding meat raffles.  There will be some really nice cuts of meat that we will raffle off every 30 minutes.

Again, this event is open to everyone to attend, but we ask that exhibitors be Muskies Inc. members.

2017 Pewaukee Classic Results

Our Fundraising event, The Pewaukee Muskie Classic, celebrated its 33rd anniversary this season. The money raised is used for our many club programs including our Muskie rearing and stocking effort for Lac LaBelle, Okauchee and Pewaukee Lakes, youth outings, our veterans’ memorial outings, monthly membership meetings with guest speakers and much more. Over one hundred anglers participated, with beautiful weather conditions. 25 new entrants fished the tourney, and 75% of anglers were returning fisherman from previous years. Some of the winners of the event included:

Tackle / bait box winner – Wayne Jelinski
Rod / reel combo winner – Daelyn Petzke
Minnkota winner – Robert Petzke
Big fish winners – Robert Liebel 38.5″, Geoff Verges 38″, and Jim Dembiec 35.5″
Canadian trip – silent auction went to Gene and Mike Pokora

Thanks to Bryan Blanke for coordinating the Pewaukee Classic! It is a pivotal event for helping finance much of the Chapter’s stocking efforts, and this year was definitely a success. Because of all of Bryan’s hard work over the years running the Pewaukee Classic, and because of his dedication to the club, he was named to the Gil Hamm Award. Congratulations Bryan!

Thanks to all other people who also volunteered their time. Thanks to all of our sponsors, including Minn Kota, St. Croix, Plano, Carhartt, Sussex Bowl, Team Rhino Outdoors, Bondy Baits, Smokey’s Muskie Shop and Frabill for their assistance and very generous donations.
